Our Team

  • Madison & Chris Shtur

With a background in physical therapy and deep roots in the PT/WestMoCo area, she founded Free-Op on May 31, 2023, driven by her passion for organizing and providing for others. She firmly believes that many people have far too much, many others don’t have enough, and too much ends up in landfills—values that inspire her mission to bridge the gap between those who have and those who need. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, savoring a good cup of coffee, and spending time with her beloved dogs.

Chris is a huge support to Madison and this organization and is the honorable store maintenance man.

  • Laura Shtur

After nearly three decades of working at Blackburn Center, a local nonprofit, she was honored to become involved with Free-Op, her daughter-in-law Madison's nonprofit. She wholeheartedly believes in Madison’s vision and Free-Op’s mission, and brings her extensive experience in nonprofit work and community engagement to help guide the organization in giving back as much as possible. Outside of family time, she works at a local greenhouse and winery. She enjoys traveling, gardening, hiking, and restoring the 100+ year-old home she shares with her husband, Mike.

  • Jill Artman

For nearly 35 years, she has been the proud owner of Penn Pals Child Care, bringing a wealth of experience in financial management and small business ownership. Outside of her professional life, she shares her love of music by performing in the acoustic band Common Ground with her husband Ken, as well as with the PT Community Band and the PT Flute Choir. She enjoys traveling, participating in book clubs, and cherishing time spent with her grandchildren.

Here at Free-Op Community Store, we have found a passion for helping our community through providing access to essential basic needs. We believe every person is deserving of nice things to fill their homes and take care of their families.

Free-Op opened its doors in Jeannette, PA on December 18th, 2023. Since then, we have welcomed many individuals and families from near and far. We offer clothing, home items, personal care items, toys, diapers, a Westmoreland Food Bank emergency food pantry, and much more. We describe Free-Op as a non-profit thrift store. We have all the great finds of a thrift store with a PAY-WHAT-YOU-CAN policy to allow access to everyone.
